Event Cancellation Policies
Participants’ safety is of utmost importance. Our races run rain or shine, with the exception of threatening weather conditions or “Acts of God” that could be present the day of the event. When conditions present a danger to our participants, Tropical Triple Crown officials maintain the right to cancel or postpone the event. If any event is cancelled due to extreme weather conditions, epidemic, pandemic, disease, or virus, we will always do our best to reschedule to a new date. Such conditions are considered “Acts of God,” and will not result in refunding of any race entry fees, as funds are expended in the many months leading up to race day. Future event credits may be offered, depending on the circumstances. If it is not possible to reschedule, participants are eligible to run the event “virtually”, send in a photo of their GPS or tracker, showing the distance was completed, and they will then be considered a finisher – – race medals (if offered) will then be mailed to all virtual finishers.
Threatening Weather Conditions
Tropical Triple Crown events may be cancelled or delayed if any of the following weather conditions exist: Tsunami Watch or Warning for the island of Oahu; Hurricane Watch or Warning for the island of Oahu; Tropical Storm Watch or Warning for the island of Oahu; High Wind Warning in the vicinity of the race; extreme thunderstorms and lightning in the vicinity of the race; Flash Flood Watch or Warning in the vicinity of the race.
Start of the Race / Cancellation of the Event
The start of the event may be delayed one hour from the posted start time if any of the above mentioned conditions exist. The event may then be canceled if any of the weather conditions continue and we deem it unsafe for our participants to race.
Authority to Cancel the Event
The Race Director, in accordance with the City and County of Honolulu, the State of Hawaii, and local law enforcement, has the authority to cancel the event. If “Acts of God” or threatening weather conditions force cancellation of the event, no refunds can be provided, since funds were already spent in preparation for race day.
Getting the Word Out
If any event is cancelled more than 24 hours prior to the official start time, all participants will be notified via email, and the information will be posted on our Facebook page. If any event is cancelled less than 24 hours prior to the official start time: all participants will be notified by email.
